NAPCO to organise second Men's Tradition Golf tourney in February

Muscat: National Aluminium Products Company (NAPCO), one of the leading extruders of aluminium profiles in the GCC, is all set to organise the NAPCO Men’s Tradition Golf Tournament.
The event will take place at the Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club on February 11 and 12 with a gala dinner and prize giving scheduled for the evening of the second day.
A two-man team can participate in the event. It has two different formats and will be played over two days. As the name indicates only men are eligible to play in the event.
“We want to establish this event as a tradition in Oman,” said Robert Holtkamp, CEO of NAPCO told Times of Oman.
Key players from the various industries like construction, oil and gas, banking and automobile industries will attend the event. None of them are professionals.
Speaking about how the game of golf has been added to the corporate calendar of NAPCO, the CEO said: “Golf is usually part of the corporate sporting calendar for most big companies and it is no different for us. Key industry figures usually play golf so this is a good way to get everyone together.”
The format makes this event different from the other corporate golfing events. The two formats are 2 man scramble and 2 man betterball.
“There is no other tournament in Oman like this. We raise the bar by bringing in top support partners that assist in making this a successful golf event,” Robert said.
According to him the first edition of the event was a great success. More than 100 players exhibited their skill in the two-day event, which offered exciting hole-in-one prizes like a Harley Davidson motorcycle and First Class tickets to London.
“The success of the inaugural tournament has prompted us to organise this year’s edition; many of the players said it was one of the best ones they had ever played.” CEO said.
“As we promised last year, exciting prizes are waiting for the local golfing community,” he added.
Speaking about the prizes, Robert said: “There is a major difference in the hole-in-one prizes. In the first year we had a Harley Davidson as a hole in one prize on hole 3 which had never been done before in Oman. In 2016, we will have an Infiniti Q50 sedan plus a Harley Davidson on two separate holes as hole-in-one prizes. No other tournament in Oman does it like this.”
He is also happy to organise the Men’s Tradition at the Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club because of its service and its infrastructure.
“It is the ideal place for the golf event," Robert said.
This year NAPCO is expecting a participation of more than 110 players.
Other than the Men’s Tradition, NAPCO is also organising a Mixed Doubles Golf Tournaments at the Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club every month.
The monthly tournaments, which last till May this year, are the first golf events to be held Oman that feature mixed teams of men and women golfers playing as teams.
NAPCO has introduced the concept of Mixed Doubles in golf with an aim to get more women to get involved in sport.
Robert Holtkamp, CEO of NAPCO, said: “This format will promote the development of the game in the country. Aside from providing amateur golfers with a platform to display their talent, it will encourage women golfers to improve their game.”
Oman Air, Infiniti, Harley Davidson, Millennium Hotel Resort Al Musannah, Tanuf Water, Zainal Baqer Mohebi Cigars, Oman Sail and Gloria Jeans Coffee are the official partners of the second edition of Men’s Tradition.
“This event will not be possible without their support,” Robert said.
He thanked each of them for the support.
NAPCO also support Sami Al Saidi, a prominent Omani marathon runner, in his global marathon races.
NAPCO also contributes to the activities of Dar Al Atta and other welfare associations like Oman Cancer Association and Oman Association for Disabled.
