More than 74,000 Omanis register for national fuel subsidy system

Muscat: More than 74,000 Omanis have registered under the national fuel subsidy system since its opening last week. The total number stood at 74,674, including 521 fishermen until 1.00 pm yesterday.
Fuel cards were given to 9,243 at different fuel stations selected by the beneficiaries through the national subsidy website.
Those registered constitute about 20 per cent of the total number eligible to receive subsidy (about 376,000 as per the study on which the subsidy mechanism was based). Statistics show that males represent 87 per cent of the number of total registered and females represent 13 per cent.
The employees registered in the decreasing order are: Job seekers, retirees, students, housewives and entrepreneurs.
The system is scheduled to come into force starting from January 2018. Those who meet the requirements to get subsidy may register at the systemwww.nss.gov.om. They are required to fill the form and then receive the fuel subsidy card from their preferred petrol station. Then have to activate the card by following some easy and clear steps. They may also read the explanation at the site or at the national subsidy system twitter
To ensure proper registration, a call centre (24174000) is operational from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm round the week to receive inquiries on the national fuel subsidy system.
