Smoking at work? Expect a hefty fine

Muscat: Do you smoke in your workplace? Then you can be fined OMR100, the Muscat Municipality said, on Wednesday.

This comes after the municipality started enforcing the administrative decision number (55/2017) which states that “practicing unhealthy habits while working, such as smoking can be fined OMR100.”

Employees working without a valid health certificate issued by the competent authority will also be fined OMR100, and the worker will be suspended from work until health certificate is obtained.

“Then the worker who shows symptoms of illness or wounds are also liable to a fine of OMR200 and shall be suspended from work until his recovery,” the Municipality said on Wednesday.
