Manama: After enjoying a successful summer of racing in the flagship Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup, Oman’s Al Faisal Al Zubair returns to his native Middle East to tackle this winter’s Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East.
The 12-round series fires into life on Thursday morning at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir and the Lechner Racing Middle East driver is determined that he will be one of the drivers in contention for the title.
“I am very well prepared for the upcoming race weekend, perhaps more than ever,” said FZ Racing’s Al Faisal. “I have more experience and am looking forward to bringing what I have learned back to the Middle East. The top three is my target this year. I was very positive in pre-season testing in Bahrain last week.”
The prestigious Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East is organised by Porsche Middle East & Africa FZE in association with Lechner Motorsport GmbH.
Twelve races at six race meetings will take place between November and April 2018 in Bahrain, at the Dubai Autodrome and at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.
Bahrain is hosting a round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) this weekend and the Porsche timetable will be fitted in around the WEC agenda.
Porsches will be permitted two practice sessions on Friday at 1055hrs and 1330hrs and will then feature in two qualifying sessions on Saturday from 1235hrs and 1520hrs.
Race one of the new season will be held at Sakhir in darkness from 1920hrs on Friday evening and the second gets underway at 1330hrs on Saturday, although drivers will be allowed on to the circuit for a morning’s warm-up.
