Muscat: After overcoming a stiff competition, Jeff Campbell emerged the winner of the Assarain Golf Classic organised at the Ghala Golf Club here recently.
The two-day 36-hole tournament, which was open to amateurs with a registered handicap, proved a great success with over 130 players taking part in men’s, ladies and junior categories.
Jeff Campbell took the prestigious title with a gross score of 152 while Oman’s top amateur Azzan Al Rumhy finished a close second with 158. Tenzin Tsarong who scored 161 settled for the third place.
After being presented with the title, Jeff Campbell said: “This tournament is always a highlight for me, to play against the best golfers in Oman is very special. The support of the Assarain Group of Companies towards this event is unmatched. Their commitment is very much shown and appreciated by all players. Thank you again for hosting the event and to all my playing partners.”
Meanwhile, Hameed Al Rumhy won the men’s nett event with a score of 142 with Hunhui Lee taking the second place with 143. Ajay Ganti finished third with a score of 144.
In the ladies category, Jameela Daud was crowned the winner after returning with a fantastic score of 196.
Women’s nett event was won by Jacky Frassen with a score of 169.
In the junior category, Mohammed Al Balushi took the top honours with a score of 205 while Ahmed Al Wahabi finished second with 217.
