Royal Oman Police start new drug awareness drive

Muscat: A drive to raise awareness among parents about the dangers of substance abuse began on Sunday at the Avenues Mall under an initiative adopted by the Directorate General (DG) of Narcotics Control at the Royal Oman Police.
A message, both in English and Arabic, was displayed on the children’s trolley with an image of a child. The message carried a caption saying, “Father, what is more important to you? Drugs or I” . It targets parents who abuse drugs.
“This message is especially for parents. So that they think of their children before using drugs,” said an official from the DG of Narcotics Control.
“So they have to take care of their family instead of taking care of themselves, so to speak,” he added.
He said the whole community was affected by people using drugs whether they were parents or bachelors and bachelorettes.
“Since children from the age of one year ride the trolley, the parents will look at the message and be aware that they have a family to raise and that they should stay away from narcotics,” said the official.
It is worth mentioning that the narcotics officers are working tirelessly to crack down on smugglers bringing drugs into the Sultanate every day.
The initiative is expected to continue until May.
