U.S. President Donald Trump issues a stark warning to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, telling him that the nuclear weapons he is developing “are not making you safer, they are putting your regime in grave danger.” It doesn't get much clearer than this.
"The weapons you are acquiring are not making you safer - they're putting your regime in grave danger." U.S. President Donald Trump delivering a direct message to Kim Jong Un on Wednesday (November 8) during a speech on North Korea at the National Assembly in Seoul.
"Do not underestimate us and do not try us." It was some of his toughest language yet against the regime, calling on countries around the world to isolate Pyongyang by denying it any form of support, supply or acceptance.
"The world cannot tolerate the menace of a rogue regime that threatens it with nuclear devastation." It's a return to harsh language just a day after he appeared to dial back some of his rhetoric. On Tuesday (November 7), he even offered a diplomatic opening to Pyongyang to 'make a deal'.
But his actions said something else. Just before the speech the U.S. President attempted to make an unannounced visit to the Korean Demilitarized Zone, the doorstep of the North Korean nuclear standoff.
Officially, the trip was canceled due to a dense fog, though with growing fears of a military conflict, there's no doubt that a trip to the DMZ would have had the potential to further inflame tensions with the North.
According to the White House, Trump was disappointed and frustrated not to make it.
