'No public surveys in Oman without prior permission'

Muscat: Prior permission must be obtained before carrying out any statistical survey or poll, the government department responsible for statistics and information has warned.
Anyone not obtaining prior permission from the government could find themselves “subject to legal questioning... in pursuance of the public interest,” the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) warned.
“It has been recently noticed that some institutions have carried out public opinion polls and surveys using different method of data collection, without obtaining prior approval or permission from the NCSI.
"This practice is considered to be clear violation to article 4 of the Statistics Law issued by the Royal Decree," the statement, posted online and carried in all major newspapers, added.
"The NCSI would like to draw to the attention of all institutions and individuals to the necessity and importance af obtaining prior approval and permission from the NSCI before carrying out statistical survey for the purpose of information and data collection."
