Muscat: One of the highlights of the international golfing calendar gets underway on Wednesday as some of the game’s most promising players tee off in the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final at Almouj.
The tournament will begin after a gala opening ceremony attended by guest of honour Sultan bin Salem Al Habsi, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Central Bank Oman, as well as VIP guests and the bank’s senior management.
Visitors of all ages attending the Greg Norman-designed Almouj Golf in Muscat from Wednesday will be treated to a four-day festival of golfing fun. Alongside watching a spectacle of world-class golf, guests will also be able to enjoy a business seminar given by prominent motivational speaker Bill Sanderson, and Ahmed Al Harthy, Oman’s top racing car driver and NBO ambassador.
NBO first brought the European Challenge Tour to the Sultanate in Muscat in 2013 at a time when professional golf was still developing in Oman. Fast-forward four years and the Sultanate now hosts one of the sports premier events. This year’s tournament has attracted support from some of Oman’s leading companies, with Oman Air, Al Tasnim, Omantel, BMW and Majan Shipping, all committing their support.
Ahead of the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final, Tuesday’s Pro-Am event provided Oman’s corporates the opportunity to meet and network with each other, and enjoy a round of golf with some of the best golfers in the world.
The NBO Golf Classic Grand Final 2017 is the culmination of the European Challenge Tour’s “Road to Oman” 2017, which includes 27 tournaments across 22 different countries.
Golfers are competing for a share of a €420,000 prize fund, with the top 15 players in the final “Road to Oman” rankings earning playing cards for next season’s European Tour International Schedule.
