Indians commemorate former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's birthday

Muscat: Indians across cyberspace and the nation's political spectrum are paying tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on the 101st anniversary of her birth.
Tributes were led by members of her Congress party, with her great-grandson and current Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and former Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari among the dignitaries paying their respects at her tomb in New Delhi.
In a post online, the Congress party said in a statement, "Indira Gandhi, the first woman to lead this nation, was a force of nature. She led with strength, confidence & grace, she stood for what she believed in & followed her convictions. Today we honour the Iron Lady on her birth anniversary."
On the opposite side of India's political divide, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also hailed his predecessor, saying, "Tributes to India's former Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi Ji on her birth anniversary."
Politicians were not the only ones hailing India's former premier, with thousands of social media users posting images and text celebrating Gandhi's legacy.
