Muscat: Oman's Customs department has seized large amounts of drugs, alcohol and tobacco that were being illegally smuggled and sold in the Sultanate.
In one case, over 3,260 tablets and half kg of marijuana was seized at Muscat airport. Officials said, "Customs at Muscat International Airport foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, amounting to a total of more than 3,260 tablets and half kg of marijuana."
In another case, officials raided stores in Muscat and seized chewing tobacco, cigarettes and alcoholic beverages. An official statement from the department read, "The Department of Investigation and Risk Assessment has hit a number of sites in the Governorate of Muscat which stored and sold contraband. [The department] seized more than 1,450 kg of chewed tobacco and 730 kg of cigarettes and quantities of alcoholic beverages."
Customs also managed to prevent the smuggling of cigarettes, tobacco products, and alcoholic beverages in North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, and Musandam governorates.
