Consumer watchdog recovers OMR33,000 in Dhofar

Muscat: OMR33,000 was recovered by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection in Dhofar during the third quarter of 2017.

The Department of Consumer Protection in Dhofar received 237 complaints from various sectors during the period, recovering more than OMR33,000 for consumers.

PACP recover OMR18000 from the vehicle service sector, OMR2140 from furniture shops, OMR1943 from the electronic sector, OMR8410 from the labour service sector, while OMR3,340 was recovered in the electrical and electronic equipment sector.

The recovered amounts in the aluminum and blacksmith sector amounted to OMR989, followed by vehicle repair workshops at OMR540, while OMR523 was clawed back in the travel and tourism services sector and OMR210 in the telecommunications sector, followed by construction and building materials sector at OMR130.

These efforts by PACP come in order to preserve the rights of consumers and to resolve complaints through friendly settlement or by referring them to the judicial authorities in accordance with the procedures adopted by the Consumer Protection Law No. 66/2014 and its executive regulations, the agency said.
