Divers in Lebanon scoured the sea for underwater trash and debris along the Lebanese coast over the weekend.
Nearly 100 scuba divers volunteered over the weekend for a shore dive to pick up underwater trash and debris at different spots across Lebanon and sort them for recycling.
The underwater initiative was launched by Maya Saad, a Lebanese expatriate living in Los Angeles, in collaboration with online campaign LiveLoveBeirut, which has more than 280,000 followers.
'LiveLoveBeirut' bracelets were sold to raise funds for the campaign, which was supported by United Nations Development Programme in Lebanon.
Eight diving centres in Lebanon answered Saad's call and divers jumped into the waters off Tabarja, Anfeh, Chekka, Byblos, Hannoush and Bouar.
LiveLoveBeirut's said on its Intragram account that almost two tons of underwater waste -- mainly plastic, cans and glasses -- was collected during the dive.
