Muscat: Lionel Messi is making the most of his international break by holidaying in Dubai.
Messi, who is on holiday with his family in Dubai, was a guest at Turkish chef “Salt Bae’s” restaurant. Nusret Gokce, as the chef is formally known, taught the footballer the art of sprinkling salt in the same manner that catapulted him to instant online fame.
Salt Bae then showed off his knife skills by slicing up portions of the steak he’d specially prepared for Messi and his friends, before feeding him directly off the blade of his knife, much to the amusement of those who’d assembled to see the two together.
Messi, who last played for Argentina at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where they barely managed to get out of the group stages behind eventual runners-up Croatia, had previously said he’d quit playing for the national team if they didn’t perform well at the tournament, and stayed true to his word.
This is not the first time Messi has quit the national team. Following Argentina’s defeat at the hands of Chile in the 2016 Copa America, a national campaign across Argentina titled ‘Don’t go Leo’, was formed, which included the unveiling of a statue in his honour in Buenos Aires as well as a gathering of 50,000 people with placards that had the same message on them.
