Dates for 13th SAI-Times of Oman contest announced

Muscat: It is time again for school children in Oman to participate in the 13th “Spreading The Light Through Human Values - 2016” competition, SAI Group, Oman has announced.
The SAI and Times of Oman Open Essay Writing and Poster Making Competition, focusing on ‘value themes’, will be held on Saturday, April 9 for students of schools in Muscat Governorate at Indian School, Al Ghubra and include Omani Private and Government Schools -both Arabic and bilingual, International Schools and Special Education Schools.
The competition will be held for the International, Private and Government Schools in the regions of Batinah, Dhahira and Dakhliyah at the Indian Schools in Sohar, Ibri and Nizwa on April 16 and for the regions of Sharqiyah, Dhofar and Buraimi at the Indian Schools in Sur, Salalah and Buraimi on April 23.
The competition is now in its 13th year thanks to the support of the Ministry of Education (MoE), and officials anticipate an overwhelming response from the student community.
Invitations and entry forms are being sent through MoE channel to schools, and entry forms are also posted atwww.saivaluesoman.org.
‘Helping children to become better children and better citizens of tomorrow’ is the theme of this year’s competition, which will work to create awareness, development of inherent human values and inculcate citizenship education in the minds of children.
It is also expected that this competition will provide a platform to children interested in honing their writing skills in English, as well as those keen to unleash their creativity through artistic sketching.
Those topics that will be common for both Poster Making and Essay Writing are: Group A for students of Grades 1 to 3 - ‘How to be happy and make others happy’; Group B for Grades 4 to 6 – ‘Be a good friend to get a good friend’; Group C for Grades 7 to 9 - ‘Value of Time’; and Group D for Grades 9 to 12 – ‘Effects of Media’. Participants will be given 90 minutes for Essay Writing and 120 minutes for Poster Making. For Essay Writing, the approximate word limit is 400 words for the A and B groups and 700 words for the C and D groups.
Each school can send a maximum of 40 students, with 20 each for Essay Writing and Poster Making at 5 per group.
Also, schools can register the names of participants at the website www.saivaluesoman.org. Alternatively, entry forms signed by the principal with the school seal can be sent to the organisers via email: [email protected]. Students are advised not to send an entry form directly. The last date for registration is March 31.
Three prizes will be awarded in each group, as well as in every category of schools in each region. In addition, consolation prizes will also be presented and all participants will receive participation certificates.
Each entry will be evaluated by three judges, who are professionals in the field of art and literature and drawn from the community, MoE and SAI Group. The awards ceremony is to be held during the fourth week of May. Winning essays and posters will be on display on the day of the ceremony.
The Sathya Sai Education in Human Values (SSEHV) programme, adopted in 165 countries around the world, focuses on character development in children by helping them learn and practice universal human values.
SAI Group is involved in many social service activities for the local community, including participation in blood donation campaigns for the Central Blood Bank, conducting workshops on Education in Human Values, Value Parenting, Autism Awareness and Health Awareness Campaigns.
