Oman transport: Portion of new expressway to open to traffic

Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications has announced the opening of a 28km portion of Al Sharqiyah Expressway on November 15. The road will be opened to traffic in wilayat Al Kamil Wa Al Wafi.
Earlier this year, the Minister of Transport and Communications announced that the Al Sharqiyah Expressway would be completed by mid-2019.
The entire Sharqiyah Expressway project is 116km long and spans from wilayat of Bidbid in A’Dakiliyah to wilayat of Ibra in Northern Sharqiyah.
There are two tunnels included in the project, and as of now, 75 per cent of the first tunnel has been completed. The tunnel is some 600 metres long, while the second tunnel is 1,500 metres long.
