Pakistani community in Oman celebrates ‘Defence Day’

Muscat: Embassy of Pakistan and Pakistani community in Oman celebrated 52nd Defence Day of Pakistan.
Ali Javed, ambassador of Pakistan, hosted a diplomatic reception at ‘Pakistan House’ on Monday evening and welcomed Air Commodore Ahmed Saif Al Badi, Head of National Surveys Authority and chief guest on the occasion.
Welcoming guests, including diplomatic corps, Omani businessmen, media, public and private sector executives as well as Pakistani community, the ambassador highlighted Pakistan’s contributions to global Peace and Security and commitment to UN Charter.
The ambassador praised His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said’s vision to anchor bilateral relations through establishment of ‘Pak Oman Investment Company’ (POIC), a $100 million joint venture taking birth from His Majesty’s visit to Pakistan in 2001.
He thanked Omani nation for hosting fifth highest Pakistani expat community worldwide.
The ambassador also appreciated Pakistani community and national institutions for promoting bilateral relations.
The ongoing ‘Oman-Pakistan Friendship Cup’, 5-day match Series to celebrate 70th Independence Day of Pakistan and ‘Ambassador Cup’, a 2-day Golf Tournament to celebrate Oman National Day in November 2016 received generous sponsorships from Pakistani community.
Stephen Grant, artist and teacher at Muscat Private School adjudged winners for “Draw Jinnah” sketching competition among 6,000 Pakistani students to mark the Father of Nation Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s death anniversary, which falls on September 11.
Pakistan and Oman share historical bonds of affinity and kinship and defence ties embedded in mutual trust. Both nations are strategic maritime neighbours and cooperate at regional and international forums whereas bilateral relations are consolidated by political and parliamentary exchanges.
