Illegal housemaids and farm hands plus runaway workers among 184 expats caught breaking law

Muscat: In all 184 workers were found violating labour laws last week, authorities have said.
The weekly report of the joint inspection team at the Ministry of Manpower pointed out that the number of workers violating the Labour Law during August 27 -September 4 week stood at 184.
The number included 149 commercial workers, 18 farm workers and 17 housemaids and their equivalents.
The inspection teams caught 179 workers including 85 absconding workers, 84 astray workers and 10 workers with other violations.
The Governorate of Muscat witnessed the largest number of workers violating the law with 65, followed by the Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah with 24 workers.
The competent authorities at the Ministry of Manpower are taking the legal procedures against them. On the other hand, the Ministry of Manpower statistics showed that 29 expatriate workers were deported from the Sultanate for violating provisions of the Labour Law and the ministerial decisions executing the law.
