ROP coastguard conducted 18 search and rescue operations in August

Muscat: Eighteen search and rescue operations were carried out by the Coastguard during the month of August, according to the Royal Oman Police (ROP).
This week alone, five rescue operations were carried out by the coastguard in Muscat, Sohar, Sur, Bida and Lima Island, and boats were towed to the beach, with no injuries to the crews, ROP said in a statement.
With the approach of Eid Al Adha, the Royal Oman Police called on fishermen to "take the necessary precautions and ensure that the safety tools are available in the boats, most notably the lifejackets and vests for all passengers."
"Check the structure of the boat from inside and outside to make sure there are no cracks that allow water to leak inside, fuel efficiency, navigation lights and additional ropes that can be used, as well as a fire extinguisher, " added ROP.
ROP urged parents and guardians to pay attention to their children while swimming and not to swim in high sea areas.
