Old Manah neighbourhood to become tourist destination

Muscat: An old neighbourhood in Al Dakhiliyah is targeted to become a popular tourist destination.
Manah neighbourhood in Al Dakhiliyah is the largest out of 1,200 in the Sultanate and features a taste of Omani culture and architecture for visitors to enjoy.
Seventy houses in the neighbourhood have already been renovated and are now open to visiting tourists.
“There are tickets that can be sold to tourists, and prices will vary based on age and the number of visitors in a group, and there is also a discount for citizens,” Al Abri added.
Majid Al Abri, Operations Manager at Al Imara Al Areeqah Reconstruction, which is taking over the project, said, “Manah neighbourhood is the largest among 1,200 neighbourhoods in the Sultanate, and still retains its unique Omani flavour, despite its having been built over nine centuries ago.Its walls remain to this day.”
The Oman Tourism and Development Company, Omran, has assigned Al Imara Al Areeqah Reconstruction to develop the Manah neighbourhood in Manah, which includes renovating the neighbourhood’s 376 houses, 11 majlises, four mosques, three watchtowers, and transform them into tourist destinations, while retaining the Omani character of the neighbourhood.
The neighbourhood also contains nearly 250 wells, according to Al Abri, and its history goes back to the 12th century.
The company will complete renovation of the remainder of the houses, as a well as a fort called Al Bilad.
