Muscat: Combining well with Qatari partner Issa Shanan Al Harrasi, Omani ace Abdullah Al Barwani clinched the doubles title in the Arab Bank/Golf Club ITF Juniors tournament in Lebanon on Friday.
In the summit clash of the tournament organised in the Lebanese capital city Beirut, Abdullah Al Barwani and Issa Shanan Al Harrasi overcame the challenge of Alexandros Roumpis of Greece and Roey Tabet of Lebanon for a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Abdullah also took part in the singles but his challenge ended in the second round when he was beaten 6-1, 7-5 by eighth seed Roey Tabet.
According to a press release issued by the Oman Tennis Association (OTA), Abdullah Al Barwani credited his success to the efforts of the Oman tennis body.
“I am delighted with this achievement. I would like to thank the OTA board members for their efforts and their backing. My achievement is made possible because of their support,” Al Barwani said.
Speaking about the competition in Lebanon, he said: “Overall it was a very exciting and satisfying tournament for me. The competition was very tough. But we managed to get past some of the top pairs before clinching the title.”
“I would like to thank the Oman Tennis Federation for their support. I am hoping to achieve more such results and bring laurels to the country,” he added.
OTA chief congratulates
Meanwhile, Oman Tennis Association chief Khalid Al Aadi congratulated the young Omani for his achievement.
“We would like to congratulate Abdullah Al Barwani for winning the doubles title in Lebanon,” he said.
“It is thanks to his hard work and overall improvement he made in the recent times that he could achieve this result,” he added.
