Muscat bourse falls on weak investor sentiment

Muscat: Shares on the Muscat bourse declined on lack of buying support even at lower levels. The MSM30 Index had a negative session with a loss of 0.78 per cent and closed at 4,938.53 points. MSM Sharia Index declined by 0.69 per cent to end at 728.45 points. Oman Fisheries was the most active in terms of volume while Oman Telecommunications Company led in terms of turnover. There were no market gainers on Tesday, while Oman Fisheries was the top loser, down by 5.71 per cent.
A total number of 496 trades were executed on Tuesday, generating turnover of OMR2.10 million with 10.3 million shares changing hands. Out of 32 traded securities, 0 advanced, 21 declined and 11 remained unchanged. Omani investors were net buyers of OMR490,000 followed by GCC and Arab investors for OMR57,000 while foreign investors were net sellers of OMR547,000 worth of shares.
Financial Index had strong loss of 1.05 per cent to end at 7,379.58 points. Gulf Investment Services, Al Madina Investments, Al Madina Takaful, Al Anwar Holding and Taageer Finance declined by 4 per cent, 3.08 per cent, 2.88 per cent, 2.76 per cent and 2.65 per cent, respectively.
Industrial Index closed at 6,641.46 points, down by 0.69 per cent. Oman Fisheries, Majan Glass, Galfar Engineering, Oman Cement and Al Anwar Ceramics declined by 5.71 per cent, 5.26 per cent, 2.78 per cent, 1.83 per cent and 0.80 per cent, respectively.
Services Index declined by 0.76 per cent to close at 2,424.57 points. National Gas, Al Suwadi Power, Port Services, OIFC and Omantel retreated by 5.05 per cent, 3.33 per cent, 2.75 per cent, 1.92 per cent and 1.85 per cent, respectively.
