Garlic cultivation season begins in Al Hamra

It’s the season of garlic cultivation in Oman and in Al Hamra and other nearby coastal plains and mountains like Jabal Shams and Wadi Ghawl, garlic is being produced in large quantities. Garlic is one of the main crops for cultivation in Al Hamra where farmers depend on it as a source of income. Hamad Al Khatari, a resident of Al Hamra, said that the season for garlic growing usually begins in October, but this year due to lack of rains it got slightly delayed. “But with the recent rains in Al Hamra the water level rose by the beginning of November,” he added.

In terms of nutritional value, market value and aroma, the garlic crop that is grown in Oman is considered one of the best varieties in the world.
"The season of garlic cultivation also shows cooperation between farmers, where they gather to grow garlic in equal rows. This is done in turns. Every day, the crop is grown for each farmer,” said Al Khatari.
Garlic in Oman is grown until the harvest season and farmers reuse the seeds that they dried during the previous year’s harvest. Grown between October and April, the local garlic produced is purplish in colour with large cloves and is much sought-after in the market. It has an immense economic value in the country as well.
