Muscat: An Omani version of the famous song 'Despacito' has hit more 750,000 views on the internet.
The music video, called ‘#athabtoohum-Despacito Arabic Version 2017’ took the local social media scene by storm earlier last week.
The Omani version depicted a parody video, where suitors’ scolded parents for how complicated the Muslim marriage process is, and how expensive it is to get married.
Shortly after the song went live, the hashtag ‘athabtoohum’ was created. The word translates to “you’ve tortured them” and is the song’s catchphrase. On social media, users were united.
“You’re the ones who tortured us,” said one user, “I love it!” “So much better than the senseless original,” another user added. The video was uploaded on July 25.
“The idea belongs to Muhannad Al Udwani and Faham al Mawali. It was performed by Muhammed al Manji and Al Udwani, with lyrics provided by Bin Duhai,” according to the song’s page.
The online page listed a team of more than 15 people, who contributed to the video along with the Rusoom production studio.
