Oman LNG trains 30 Omanis for jobs in oil and gas sector

Muscat: As part of its continuous efforts towards human resources development, Oman LNG celebrated on Wednesday the graduation of a new batch of Omani trainees following its training-for-employment model in collaboration with Oman Society for Petroleum Services (Opal).
The ceremony celebrates the completion of a six-month training programme for 30 Omanis where 20 of them have been trained in non-destructive testing, facilitated by Technical & Administration Training Institute, while the other 10 in general mechanical for diesel engine, trained by Institute of Technical Training Services.
Opal played a significant role in arranging and facilitating the training of the candidates who are assured of employment by companies serving the oil and gas sector.
The training programme falls under Oman LNG’s Human Resource Development (HRD), a fund that targets nurturing job-skills that are attractive to the labour market. Through this fund, Oman LNG, since its inception, has been able to enhance local capabilities resulting in the employment by self-employment and job secured employment of more than 3,250 Omanis.
The graduation ceremony was held under the patronage of Ali bin Abdullah Al Riyami, director-general of Marketing, Ministry of Oil & Gas, and acting chairman of Oman LNG Development Foundation.
“The graduation ceremony today portrays Oman LNG’s dedication towards developing and training young Omani nationals. The training programmes will develop a number of Omani youths to work in the private sector and boost Omanisation efforts,” said Khalid Al Massan, chief executive officer of Oman LNG Development Foundation.
Attesting to the company’s high number of Omanisation empowerment, training, and development efforts, Ministry of Manpower has recognised Oman LNG with Excellence Award for its Omanisation efforts. The award celebrates Oman LNG’s continuing efforts since its inception in the development of national workforce.
Oman LNG has an ambitious vision and dedication towards Corporate Social Responsibility as indicated by the recently launched Oman LNG Development Foundation. The foundation addresses many areas of social development in Oman, but in general comprises a community fund targeting initiatives related to the Sur community where its world-class, three-train liquefaction plant is located, a National Fund that covers a large swath of the company’s social development programmes across the nation; a Reserve Fund to address the sustainability and continuity of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programmes; and finally a Centre of Excellence to develop lasting CSR initiatives through partnering, knowledge sharing, funding and investments.
Oman LNG Development Foundation is a subsidiary of Oman LNG. Oman LNG operates as a joint venture with a shareholding structure comprising the Government of Oman (51 per cent), Shell Gas (30 per cent), Total (5.54 per cent), Korea LNG (5 per cent), Mitsubishi Corporation (2.77 per cent), Mitsui & Company (2.77 per cent), Partex (Oman) Corporation (2 per cent), and Itochu (0.92 per cent).
