Budapest: Oman’s Al Faisal Al Zubair will be aiming to finish in the points and climb the championship standings when he tackles the sixth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup at the Hungaroring, near Budapest, this weekend.
The Lechner Racing Middle East team driver has recorded points-scoring finishes at two of the five races so far, his success belying the fact that this is his first full season in such a competitive international racing series.
“I’m very excited to be racing in Hungary,” said FZ Racing’s Al Faisal. “We were testing there a few weeks back and the team was really happy with the progress and pace. I am looking forward to racing there and hopefully getting into the points once again and to continue learning and improving.”
German driver Michael Ammermuller heads to Hungary with a lead of 12 points in the series over recent Silverstone race winner Dennis Olsen. Daniel Cammish is third and Matt Campbell and Dylan Pereira round off the top five. Al Zubair holds 17th in the main championship and eighth in the rookie standings.
The sixth round of this year’s Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup is being held in conjunction with the Hungarian F1 Grand Prix on the renowned 4.381km, 14-turn Hungaroring, near Mogyoród. This was the first circuit ever to host an F1 race behind the old Iron Curtain – back in 1986.
Teams will be permitted a first 45-minute practice session on the course from 1645hrs on July 28 followed by a 30-minute qualifying session on July 29, starting at 1220hrs. The 14-lap race takes centre stage on the circuit from 1130hrs on July 30.
