Spielberg: Oman’s rookie Al Faisal Al Zubair delivered another impressive result in his short Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup campaign with 16th position in round four of the series at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria on Sunday.
The Lechner Racing Middle East driver qualified 15th for the race and was then been docked two places on the starting grid as a result of the accident he was involved in at the previous round in Monaco.
Al Zubair delivered another determined and professional performance against a top class field and managed to climb a place in the 16-lap race to finish 16th after losing ground early on.
Matt Campbell of the FACH Auto Tech Team started on pole and fended off a fierce challenge from German series leader Michael Ammermüller to secure his first win of the campaign. Al Faisal’s teammate Dylan Pereira finished third and Mattia Drudi reached the chequered flag in fourth after starting the race from second position.
“We started the race from 17th after getting a two-place penalty because of what happened in Monaco,” said FZ Racing’s Al Faisal. “I finished 16th, but I felt that the car was a little bit difficult to drive and I had an incident in turn one where someone turned in on me. But I made up a few positions and managed to get back to 16th.
“I think the tyre pressures were a bit off. At the beginning of the race it was not easy to drive. At the end, I kept on pushing and the car started becoming better and better. It’s just a little bit frustrating to have lost positions at the start. It was good experience for me, because the racing was really close until the last lap.”
The Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup teams now head to the United Kingdom for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone next weekend.
