U.S. President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Jay Sekulow said on Sunday that Trump is not under investigation in the probe into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential race. Jillian Kitchener reports.
"The president has not been and is not under investigation."
U.S. President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Jay Sekulow, contradicting a comment Trump himself made on Twitter last week, allegedly reacting to a story in the Washington Post.
Sekulow is part of a team hired by Trump to deal with allegations of collusion by his campaign with Moscow.
And on four Sunday talk shows, Pushed back against reports that Trump is under scrutiny.
"There has been no notification from the special counsel's office that the president is under investigation. In fact, to the contrary. What we know is what James Comey said, the last thing we know is when he testified just a couple weeks back. That the President was not and is not a target of investigation."
Robert Mueller, the special counsel named by the Justice Department to probe the Russia matter, is investigating whether anyone associated with Trump or his campaign had any illegal dealings with Russian officials or others with ties to the Kremlin.
A source told Reuters that Mueller was also examining whether Trump or others tried to interfere with the investigation.
But Trump denies any collusion between his campaign and Russia... repeatedly calling the probe a 'witch hunt.'
