Oman family: Muscat student Santrupth to attend Stanford Jazz Workshop in US

Santrupth G.R. Vedanthi, Oman-based musician and student of Indian School Muscat, has been selected to attend a one week long Stanford Jazz Workshop (SJW) starting on July 16 at Stanford in US. Stanford Jazz Workshop is a non-profit organisation dedicated to jazz education and appreciation. For over four decades, SJW has been bringing the best jazz performers and educators together with students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, in summer jazz immersion programmes. The young musician, Santrupth who has been using his talent to help serve the community by raising funds for a variety of causes, will be sharing his journey of promoting cancer awareness through music at the Stanford Jazz Workshop. SJW encourages “all students to bring their own personality and life experience into their music, developing their creativity and opening them up to life skills such as collaboration and cooperation”. Expressing happiness over being selected for the Stanford Jazz Workshop, Santrupth said, “I am grateful for this exceptional opportunity. I am looking forward to learning and experience techniques and artistic visions from the top jazz artists in the world. I also want to interact and exchange perspective with fellow students from across the world.” Santrupth, who plays five instruments, has played the drums at India’s renowned composer A R Rahman ‘Jai Ho Muscat’ concert. He has also shared the stage and been mentored by Sivamani, Gino Banks, Bikram Ghosh, Dilip Doshi, and Arunkumar, eminent names from the world of percussion. While Santrupth has completed a five-week scholarship programme at the US-based Berklee College of Music (BCM), at 13, he became the youngest student to clear eighth grade in drums from London’s Trinity College of Music. He has a music album ‘Amogha Milana’ to his credit and is set to release his second album ‘Palasampada’ in the month of August 2017.
