Muscat: Abdi Naffar and Anurag Pandey emerged the winners of the Pairs Bridge Tournament organised by Muscat Bridge League (MLB).
The tournament attracted 26 players, including a number of all-ladies pairs. The event was played under full Howell format with each of the 13 pairs playing two boards against all the other pairs. The tournament was sponsored by Khurshid Trading.
Abdi and Anurag took the top honours with an excellent score of 65 percent. Seasoned pair of SK Vishwanath and Ashok Sardiwal combined well to clinch second place with a score of 62 percent.
The pair of Suhail Khan and Nitin Vaidya came third with a score of 61 percent and the all ladies pair of Neeta Khimji and Sadhana Gupta played extremely well to claim the ladies prize with a score of 54 percent.
Muscat Bridge league also bid adieu to one of its senior most player Abdi Naffar, who is leaving Oman after a stint of 35 long years. Abdi and his wife Yasmeen have been a regular feature at the Muscat Bridge League and leave behind a legacy on the bridge scene in Oman.
Abdi has won various bridge competitions and has been amongst the best players in the country. MBL also bid farewell to another regular player Venkat Ramachandran. Various players spoke on the occasion and wished Abdi and Yasmeen as well as Venkat well in their future endeavours.
