Oman crime: Two arrested on drug trafficking charges

Muscat: An Omani citizen was arrested for trading in drugs in North Batinah, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) reported. Heroin was found in the man’s possessions, which along with the mobile phones he was using to buy and sell the drugs, have been confiscated.
Another Omani national was arrested in Seeb for carrying drugs with the aim of trading in them. Seventeen capsules of morphine were found with him and were confiscated. He has been referred to the public prosecution before being led to court.
The ROP has called upon everyone to cooperate in the fight against drugs and report any suspicious activities to police officers by calling the hotline 1444 of the emergency number 9999.
The Sultanate has stepped up its efforts to counter the growing problem of drug abuse in the country. Recently, the Times of Oman quoted a senior official of the ROP reminding drug dealers that they risk execution when caught smuggling drugs into the country. The official said drug users risk a maximum of three years in prison and a fine of OMR3,000.
Arrested for Consumer Law violation
Meanwhile, two Asians were arrested in Suwaiq for violating the Consumer Protection Law.
The two had been accused of selling forbidden goods inside one of the shops selling chicken in Suwaiq. Seven cartons and 212 bags containing three types of cigars were confiscated. The two were informed about their crime and referred to the public prosecution.
