Urgent need for blood donations in Oman, department says

Muscat: Oman's Department of Blood Banks Services has made an urgent call for donations of A+ blood.

In a statement on Monday, the department said, "Due to there being more than one urgent condition in dire need of A+ blood type, we appeal to those who are A+ to come forward and provide blood at the Central Blood Bank in Bausher."

Five days ago, the department asked for blood donations due to a severe lack of blood units at the Central Blood Bank in Bausher.

According to the directory, "Blood and blood components are used for a number of purposes. With advancement in health care services the need for blood is ever increasing."

Some major conditions that require transfusions are, Blood disorders, massive hemorrhage with loss of large amount of blood in accidents such as road accidents, burns, disasters etc, and bleeding during major operations, delivery and post delivery. Transfusions can also be necessary for various cancer treatments.
