Experience a noble way of running next week as several enthusiastic runners from Muscat beat the heat to participate in The Wings for Life World Run. Scheduled to be held on Sunday, May 7 at 3pm at the Oman Automobile Association, the Muscat Chapter of this global event will join hands with the fellow runners worldwide to raise fund for a non-profit organisation, Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation, whose objective is to find a cure for spinal cord injury.
Since 2004, Wings for Life Foundation has funded several life-changing research projects and supported clinical trials throughout the world and this global run is held to fundraise for this noble cause. Hundred per cent of the proceeds of the event that is collected through entry fees and donations will go for the foundation’s initiatives towards the cause. Launched in 2014, this worldwide run for a cause event has attracted more than 280,000 people from 193 nationalities to run in more than 38 countries across six continents and have been able to raise 13.8 million euros so far.
Being a global event The Wings for Life World Run has ensured to unite the runners of the world, no matter whichever part of the world they are, through The Wings for Life World Run App. So one can stay connected, feel the adrenaline rush as they get chased by a virtual catcher car, and utilise their valuable time for a cause through this app by downloading it. The app helps the runners track their run simultaneously with thousands of other runners worldwide. The app will not only show you the distance that you have covered but your name too will automatically get updated in the global result list.
In Muscat, the participants would be running on a closed track of 1.85km that runs along the
drifting track, drag track, and karting track. The event will start at the main entrance of the Oman Automobile Association.
To register for the event visit wingsforlifeworldrun.com. Download the app at the App Store or Google Play, or register on their website to participate. APP RUN in Muscat is free of charge. Once you register you will get a confirmation through e-mail that will also give your race number for future reference. Wheelchair participants will also join the run along with the regular runners. The event is being held in partnership with SalamAir, Muscat Road Runner, Hi FM, and Hala FM. So whether you run alone or with your friends, it’s time to go an extra mile to make a difference.
