#Omanpride: More than 500 teams take part in Times Quiz prelims at Indian School Muscat

In yet another record turnout, 400 teams from junior sections and 120 teams from the senior section participated in the prelims organised at Indian School Muscat’s multi-purpose hall on Sunday. Indian School Muscat has always had a high turnout of participating teams, but this year for the first time it crossed the 500 mark.
Quizmaster Lloyd Saldanha, who is a favourite among the ‘quizzing enthusiastic students’ of Oman, was impressed by the sheer numbers that registered to try their hand at the mind game.
Saldanha said, “I would sum up the ambience at ISM as exhilarating. The enthusiasm among students to just participate took my breathe away. Almost 450 teams in the junior section turned up and that’s not easy to come by on an everyday basis. The idea of exposing the third and fourth grade students to a knowledge event is a well thought out concept. The tiny tots were not there to make up the numbers, the way they answered was a pleasant surprise and a joy to watch. Kudos to the school for letting the younger children participate, it helps in enhancing the knowledge ethos.”
Dr Sathish Nambiar, managing director of Eventful /Doc LLC said, “We would like to congratulate the school and quizzing teams from ISM for taking quizzing to a greater height. It was a proud moment for the school to have so many students show interest in knowledge enriching event.
With ISM authorities going out of the way to give special touch to the event, the Times of Oman quiz prelims was truly extra special.”

The participating teams engaged zealously in the exciting session as they cracked some challenging questions posed by the quiz master.
A parent of the school congratulated Times of Oman for being a great facilitator to the knowledge-seekers and future generation. The parent said that the quiz has been an ideal platform, fostering a global perspective amongst the students of Oman. The quiz contributes to their general awareness and makes them better informed individuals, the parent added.
The juniors attempted challenging questions such as “What is the London residence and administrative headquarters of the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom?” (Buckingham Palace); “Guy Dangerous, Scarlett Fox, Barry Bones, Karma Lee, Monatana Smith, Francisco Montaya and Zack Wonder are all explorers found here”. (Temple Run); “There are four basic attack moves - Jab, cross, Hook, Uppercut and Slip, Sway, Duck, Bob and Weave are some of the defensive moves in which Olympic and Commonwealth combat sport?” (Boxing) and “What is the branch of medicine that deals with the anatomy, physiology and diseases of the eye?” (Ophthalmology).
The seniors answered diverse questions such as “In which cartoon by William Hanna and Joseph Barbara do characters like Spike and Tyke, Butch, Mammy Two Shoes and Lightning make an appearance?” (Tom and Jerry); “As on 22nd December 2016, 22 December, the rVSV-ZEBOV vaccine became the first of its kind to have a 70–100% chance to prevent which disease?” (EBOLA); “Which head of the state was presented the black belt in December 2009 by Japanese champion Kyokushin Karate-Do master Hatsuo Royama?” (Vladimir Putin).
The winning school at the Times of Oman Inter School Quiz Contest (TOOISQC) will lift the Essa bin Mohammed Al Zedjali Rolling Trophy for their school.
