Muscat: Thirty-eight Omanis have been recognised through the Takatuf Scholars Programme, a unit within Takatuf Oman.
Of those newly elected scholars, 12 have been awarded prestigious international scholarships to attend leading boarding schools and universities in the United States, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Canada and Japan.
Designed to prepare Oman’s most talented young people for personal and professional success and fast track participation in achieving the Sultanate’s goals, the programme introduces the candidates to skills and abilities required for success in learning, as well as in the ever-changing global marketplace. Under the patronage of Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Sarmi, undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, 38 young Omani students celebrated the completion of The Takatuf Scholars Enrichment Programme on Thursday at a recognition ceremony held at the Military Technological College in Muscat.
This recognition marks the point where the 2016 Takatuf Scholars become part of the Takatuf Scholars Network—a national and global network of over 300 bright young Omanis, who have acquired the core competencies deemed necessary for success in both university and the 21st century workplace.
Through the programme they have not only demonstrated their intellectual potential for success; they have also shown that they can work hard at being team members, as well as independent problem-solvers. The Takatuf Scholars are all role models, whose next challenge is to further develop and hone their leadership skills.
The Programme’s effectiveness has been demonstrated through the performance of scholars from all over the Sultanate in leading boarding schools, as well as at some of the world’s most rigorous universities, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), New York University (NYU), Imperial College and the University College London.
Commenting on the event, Ibrahim Al Harthi, acting chief executive officer of Takatuf, said, “All of us at Takatuf, are very proud of our students’ success. It is very rewarding to see the achievements of our Takatuf Scholars; it proves that we are on the right track to nurturing Oman’s future leaders.”
Takatuf Scholars are sponsored by companies that believe in tapping into the potential of talented young Omanis to contribute to the Sultanate’s future. The growing network of sponsors now includes the Oman Oil Company (OOC), Oman Trading International (OTI), Orpic, Salalah Methanol Company (SMC), Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Mitsui), Occidental of Oman (Oxy) and Eshraqa-Khimji Ramadas’ Social Development Arm.
