Consumer watchdog issues fines in Oman

Muscat: Four convictions have been issued against businesses regarding consumer protection violations, the PACP announced on Tuesday.

The Courts of First Instance in Al Sharqiya have recently issued four judgements against a number of violators of the Consumer Protection law, and have imposed fines up to 2700 OMR.

The Court of First Instance in the province of Ibra has convicted a defendant of circulating false advertising of the commodity they were selling, and was charged with a penalty that amounted to 2000 OMR.

The Court of First Instance in Samad Al Sha’an ruled with three judicial verdicts against violators.

The first sentence convicted a defendant of failing to complete the agreed upon service for a consumer, and the defendant was punished with a fine of 500 rials.

The two remaining sentences convicted two defendants of displaying expired goods, and punished them with fines of 200 rials each. The expired goods were confiscated and destroyed.
