Trading starts on weak note on Muscat bourse

Muscat: Shares on the Muscat Securities Market (MSM) started trading with a negative note. The MSM30 Index closed at 5,598.26, down by 0.27 per cent. The MSM Sharia Index closed at 833.39 points, down by 0.57 per cent. Bank Nizwa was the most active in terms of volume while United Power preferred shares were most active in terms of turnover. The top gainer was Oman Flour Mills, up by 0.94 per cent, while the top loser was Oman Orix Leasing, down by 9.23 per cent.
As many as 581 trades were executed on Sunday, generating turnover of OMR2.86 million with 10.29 million shares changing hands. Out of 43 traded securities, 2 advanced, 16 declined and 25 remained unchanged. Omani investors were net buyers for OMR358,000 while foreign investors remained net sellers for OMR204,000 followed by GCC and Arab investors for OMR154,000 worth of shares.
Financial Index retreated 0.45 per cent to close at 8,032.77 points. Oman Orix Leasing, Taageer Finance, Al Madina Takaful, Ominvest and Al Anwar Holding declined by 9.23 per cent, 5.93 per cent, 3.09 per cent, 1.59 per cent and 1.41 per cent, respectively.
Industrial Index had strong loss of 0.99 per cent to close at 7,674.67 points. Oman Flour Mills, up by 0.94 per cent, was the sole sector gainer. Oman Fisheries, Al Anwar Ceramics and National Aluminum fellby 7.59 per cent, 5.88 per cent and 1.18 per cent, respectively.
Services Index ended the session at 2,863.69 points, down by 0.07 per cent. Ooredoo gained 0.75 per cent to close at OMR0.534. Sohar Power, Al Jazeera Services, Port Services and Oman Telecommunications lost 2.63 per cent, 1.70 per cent, 1.30 per cent and 0.73 per cent, respectively.
