‘Grateful to Oman for welcoming us’, says International Vogue editor Suzy

Muscat: Suzy Menkes, International Vogue’s editor has thanked Oman saying, “We are grateful to Oman for welcoming us.”
Menkes made the statement during a media roundtable a day before the actual Conde Nast International conference.
“I have to say that everybody we have been in contact with, from the highest to the junior-level people have all expressed their pleasure, excitement and joy that Vogue is coming here, I think it’s the other way round and that we should be grateful to Oman for welcoming us in this way.”
She added that the reason why Conde Nast International is holding their third conference in Oman is that, “This conference is not really about the luxury world, in a way I almost want to give a reality check to that sort of thoughtless buy, buy, buy mentality,” Menkes said.
“When you look at Oman it looks as if the country has been built with a lot of mindfulness. Oman, with its thoughtful approach in the Sultanate to everything, from respect for nature to buildings in stone colour to fit into the rocky landscape was a natural fit with this changing mood that I was feeling.”
Amouage
She also praised Amouage, Oman’s perfume brand and said, “His Excellency Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi has been very supportive and helpful, and what his Amouage business has created is another pretty amazing story.”
“You know that so many of the big beauty brands are launching fragrances one after another, but here is Amouage that has been built up in a relatively short time for the wider world, but of course it has been a long time since it was founded; I feel it is very much part of what the essence of this idea of mindful luxury.”
