Children are all aflutter

The chance to discover a little history, find a few fossils, and spot butterflies and birds... Alila Jabal Akhdar’s Butterfly Trail offers an adventure for children that they, and their parents, just can’t resist. With scavenger map in hand, young explorers will be taken on a journey of discovery, learning new facts about the mountain and its inhabitants, and engaging in an array of fun activities along the way.

Just pick up the butterfly trail markers outside the lobby. You can enjoy an almost 3km walk without leaving the resort. On your expedition, look out for geological markers of the rising and falling of seas, and see the results of how the slow but persistent push of the continents has shaped the beautiful vistas of the Green Mountain.

Learn about some of the twenty species of butterflies and as many as forty species of birds that are residents of the mountain. Keep eyes peeled for the different types of spiders, lizards and creepy crawlies that are hiding around and about. Buzz past the beehives that produce some of the famous Jabal Akhdar honey, and learn about some of the many fruits and trees that grow locally. You can also drink water from a traditional Jahlah (water jug), spot fossils millions of years old, and see how our kitchen garden grows.

The fun doesn’t end there... Enjoy a stop at our swings and climbing frame, try jousting on the balance beam, or create your own symphony on the musical wall. There are many stops along the way to take that amazing selfie to send back to your friends at school. Children can enjoy the trail on their own, with friends, or as a family outing. For free guided tours at 4pm on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday (confirm your spot with reception).

Meet at reception before a guided walk of the butterfly trail. Self-guided at other times. Please consult the Leisure Concierge for details. For reservations, email: [email protected], call: +968 2534 4200 / +968 9910 4204. —[email protected]
