Jail, fine for consumer law violation in Oman

Muscat: A Nizwa court issued a conviction, fine and prison sentences to a consumer law violator in two cases.

The Department of Consumer Protection in Nizwa received two complaints against a commercial establishment in the Wilayat which specialized in the sale of steel security doors.

The consumers said the establishment didn’t fulfill the agreement where they promised to install the door within the allotted time period.

The case file was referred to court where the judge convicted the accused for failing to commit to an agreed service.

The court issued a suspended prison sentence of six months and fined the accused OMR 200. He was also ordered to reimburse OMR 500 to one of the consumers as well as completing the work of the other consumer. The accused was also ordered to pay court costs for both cases.
