Burdwan (West Bengal): Seven members of a family were killed on Wednesday when the car they were travelling in was hit by a tanker on the National Highway-2 near Tezganj in Burdwan district.
The accident occurred when the tanker, carrying road building tar, overturned while it was trying to overtake the car and crashed into it on Wednesday morning, a police official said, adding that both the vehicles caught fire.
One fire engine doused the flame before the bodies were retrieved. All the seven occupants, three men and as many women besides a child of a family, of the Durgapur-bound car were killed in the accident, he said. Angry locals put up a road blockade for about half an hour before police dispersed them.
