Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning issues conditions for renting real estate

Muscat: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has given directives for leasing real estate in areas prohibited to non-Omanis.
A statement from the Ministry said, “Organisational measures to activate the law prohibiting non-Omani ownership of land and real estate in places of the embargo, will become effective from November 19, 2020. The conditions are: While submitting the documents for the lease contract, a no objection certificate from the competent authority issued by the ministry should be attached and the purpose of house rent should be commercial or industrial business only. The term of the lease contract will be one year with the registration of the lease contract from a competent municipality.
The documents required are: A copy of the title deed, the survey drawing (sketch of the property), a copy of the tenant’s valid passport, a copy of the tenant’s valid ID card, a copy of the commercial register in case the tenant is a legal person, a certificate of completion of construction, an undertaking specifying the purpose of rent, and an undertaking from the tenant that it is for his personal use and not for renting it to others.
