Man arrested for blackmailing girl on social media

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police on Wednesday arrested a person on charges of defaming a girl and blackmailing her via social media.

In a statement issued, ROP said: "Al Buraimi Governorate Police Command has arrested a person accused of defaming a girl and violating the cyber security law. The accused blackmailed the girl and threatened her after he communicated with her through a social media platform."

The Royal Oman Police has called on social media users to report immediately when they are exposed to blackmailing online and “not to send private and personal photos via the internet, and families and parents must educate their children about the dangers of these behaviours and follow up on their use of modern technologies,” the statement added.
