SQU Hospital issues statement on treatment of girl in Qatar

Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University Hospital has issued a clarifying statement about the girl who received treatment in the State of Qatar.

The statement said: “Based on what is being circulated on some social media sites regarding the subject of the girl who received treatment in a hospital in the State of Qatar, Sultan Qaboos University Hospital would like to clarify that the girl was in a traffic accident that resulted in severe injuries, and was first treated at the Armed Forces Hospital, where she received the necessary medical care to save her life, then she was transferred to the University Hospital, which in turn dealt with the case as a very critical case and proceeded to perform open and precise surgeries for the girl child.”

“A group of specialists have been consulted in Australia, the United States of America, Canada and Britain; to know their procedures for treating such a condition and the response was to completely remove the left lung,” the statement added.

However, the medical team at the University Hospital had a different opinion due to the health consequences of removing the lung, and formed a medical surgical team who decided to perform a delicate surgery for the child to preserve the lung.

The hospital added, “The operation was successful, which stabilised the child's condition. During the follow-up operations, it found necessary to install a stent with special characteristics for the child to avoid complications and to ensure the return of the lung to its normal work.”

"In addition, the Committee for Treatment Abroad of the Ministry of Health, took care of the financial costs of installing the stent and coordinated with a private hospital in the State of Qatar to install it."

“The child was sent with a medical team from the University Hospital to Doha to install the stent, and she returned to the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital to complete the treatment program,” the hospital added.
