Six foreigners arrested attempting to smuggle drugs into Oman

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has foiled two attempts to smuggle drugs to the Sultanate by sea.

According to the ROP, six persons of foreign nationalities have been arrested for attempting to smuggle narcotic drugs.

"Four defendants of Asian nationalities were found in possession of 50.64 kilograms of crystal drugs, 26.132 kilograms of hashish and a quantity of morphine, while trying to smuggle it into the Sultanate near the coast of Qurayyat," the ROP said in a statement.

In another case, the Department of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, led by the Dhofar Governorate Police, in cooperation with the Special Mission Patrols, arrested two infiltrators of African nationality with 12 bags hashish , 4,400 tablets of Captagon and five pieces of morphine.

The police called on citizens and residents to do more to combat the danger of drugs and to inform the police of any tip-offs by calling the toll-free number of the General Administration for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (1444) or going to the nearest police station.
