Authority releases statement on high electricity bills in Oman

Muscat: The Authority for Public Services Regulation has issued a statement regarding the issue of high cost of electricity bills.

A statement issued online by the Authority said: "The Public Services Regulatory Authority wishes to confirm that the rights of subscribers are guaranteed by laws, regulations and licensing conditions regulating the work of all electricity supply companies in the Sultanate."

"The authority confirms that it is carefully following what is being circulated these days on social media platforms from the observations of some subscribers about the high amounts of electricity bills. The Authority has adopted special procedures to look into subscribers' complaints of all kinds, including the mechanism and the time period required for electricity companies to deal with these complaints."

"These procedures include complaints related to high bills and every subscriber has the right, in the event of his objection to the bill details, to communicate with the service provider company in his area, as the company must respond to subscribers' complaints and clarify the bill details and the method of calculating the bill amount in a manner that guarantees the subscriber's right."

"The authority has contacted all companies licensed to provide electricity services and stressed the need to respond to all subscribers' inquiries related to bills in ways that achieves the satisfaction of their subscribers and not to cut the service in the event of a complaint with any of the companies until the complaint is resolved."

"The authority also asked companies to review all bills submitted by their owners with an objection, in order to ensure that there are no reasons that may have led to an increase in the value of consumption. The Authority verifies the audit of the companies and takes any regulatory measures in this regard."
