Muharram holiday announced in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs has confirmed that Friday, 21 August will be the first day of the Islamic New Year1442.
According to the statement issued by the ministry, the sighting of the moon of Muharram on Wednesday was not proven, and this Friday will be the first day of Muharram, corresponding to August 21, 2020.
According to the decision issued by Diwan Royal Court, Sunday will be an official holiday on the occasion of the New Hijri year.
The decision said, "If the 1st of Muharram 1442 AH is on Friday, corresponding to 21 August, 2020, the holiday will be on Sunday, 3rd Muharram 1442 AH, corresponding to 23 August, 2020.”
