Oman chess team qualifies for second round

Muscat: The National Chess Team has qualified for the second round of the international Olympic chess championship after coming third in its group which comprised 10 teams.

The national team bagged 13 points to get third rank in the general category. The first place went to the national team of Myanmar with 18 points followed by the team of Brunei with 16 points.

The second round competitions will kick off on Friday where the Sultanate will be represented by 13 players of various age groups.

The players are Salim Al Ameri, Amin Al Ansi and Mohammed Al Ameri in the men's category; Hammod Al Busaidi, Abdulrahman Al Zedjakli and Anas Al Daroushi in the juniors category; Anat Al Isaei, Al Anoud Al Ghafri, Rawan Al Balushi, Kamla Al Ghafri and Maryam Al Balushi in the women category and women (juniors ) category with the participation of the coach of the team Bashir Al Qadimi.
