Oman ranks second in Middle East in conferences: Report

Muscat: The Sultanate has been ranked second in the Middle East region in the conference sector, as per a report released by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).

A statement issued online by the Oman News Agency (ONA), said: "The Sultanate ranked second in the Middle East in the conference sector, according to the 2019 International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) annual report."

"This sector is one of the most promising tourism sectors. The Sultanate seeks to be a distinguished destination for conference tourism in the region, because of the positive returns for the tourism sector in particular and the national economy in general."

"The report showed that the Sultanate progressed last year to the second place regionally, in terms of the number of conferences it hosted. The number of periodic conferences held in 2019 reached 24 conferences, compared to 16 in 2018, a 33.3 per cent increase. This increase is considered significant, as the sector is new in the Sultanate," the statement added.
