Muscat: The Muscat Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) conducted its 12th Annual General Meeting on July 1, which is celebrated as Chartered Accountant’s day (CA day), to elect its new office bearers.
Online AGM meeting was first of its kind in the history of the Chapter in Oman. CA T N Manoharan, Padmashree Awardee and Past President of ICAI addressed members on 'Sustainability of Happiness - CAs to Strike Work-Life Balance'.
ICAI Muscat also conducted a virtual secret ballot poll for the casual vacancy in managing committee. The out-going Chairperson- CA Ashwini Sawrikar presented the report highlighting various activities of the chapter during the last year. She thanked CBFS for being the official sponsor for the ICAI-Muscat Chapter; and also the past Chairmen of ICAI-Muscat Chapter and the parent Institute of Chartered Accountants of India; for their continued support and guidance. CA T N Manoharan also released a video which captured the chapter’s activities.
The ICAI Muscat Chapter is run by a Managing Committee of 8 elected members. The committee met after the AGM and decided its office-bearers for 2020-2021. CA Ramananda Prabhu took over as Chairman and other office bearers are CA N Sanil Varghese as Vice Chairman; CA Sajeev Surendran as Secretary and CA Jim Joseph Ittyas Treasurer. The committee members also include CA Ashwini Sawrikar, CA G S Bhavani Prasad, CA Manish Jain and CA Ravi Deora.
The Chairman CA Ramananda Prabhu expressed his thanks to the past committee and sub-committees and pledged to continue the activities of the chapter at the same pace with his committed team. He is also determined to continue the efforts of the chapter to support the establishment of an Accounting Professional Body in Oman which aims at developing Omani professionals to support Oman economic growth and partner in the progress of Oman’s nation-building.
The Chapter is conducting Continuing Professional Education (CPE) events every month, which is now shifted to online events. Muscat Chapter also coordinates activities in Salalah and Sohar through its sub-committees. It also celebrates various festivals and cultural events involving the families of members.
ICAI-Muscat Chapter is sponsored by the College of Banking and Financial Studies (CBFS) and is set up under the Memorandum of Understanding between The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), New Delhi and The College of Banking and Financial Studies, Sultanate of Oman and has the objective of providing Continuing Professional Education to the members of the ICAI and this process of professional development is extended to the accountants and finance professionals of all nationalities. The chapter was established in 2008 and has over 400 members.
